Spain v England U21 Championship

Spain and England played out a draw in their opening group match in Denmark. Spain were the better side, but not overly dominant. Chris Smalling was the best player for England. Both goals were controversial. With Spain’s Herrera scoring from a corner with, what looked like his hand. While Danny Welbeck’s goal had more than a hint of offside about it. Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao was my man of the match. Questionable decision by England coach Pearce starting Mancienne over Rodwell. The team seemed to play better once Rodwell came on. Spain were a bit wasteful with the ball in the second half, seemed not to show much urgency. However when they did get their passing together they looked very stylish. Spain must surely be favorites for the competition. England will be happy with the point.
